Barbara Johnson, Morritt owner for 14 years, along with her husband, Peter Phillips, says: “We know about weddings – we organise and advise on dozens a year, which makes us very knowledgeable and experienced. But we also know that each one is different and that’s very important.

“Planning weddings is not a conveyor belt and they should never be treated that way. It’s the big day of each and every couple and we aim to make all of them feel valued and special.”’ Set in beautiful Teesdale, The Morritt is lovely old hotel with a huge history and breathtaking surroundings. The grand front entrance, cosy lounge and seating areas, and superb bar and restaurant offer something for everyone.

The majority of weddings are traditional, but the team is happy to add whatever personal touches a couple want, to make it extra special.

Barbara says that The Morritt will do anything you like to make the day your own – as long as it isn’t illegal or immoral! “We love weddings,”

she says. “And we have been able to make some fairly unusual things happen. We have had a horse as a ‘witness’ and a dog who acted as a ring bearer. And brides have arrived on foot and on a tractor.

“We have catered for weddings with just four people – the bride and groom and their witnesses – and for hundreds.”

There are still a few spaces in this year’s calendar, but they are going fast. And yours will be the only wedding at The Morritt on the day you choose.

But whether you want to make your entrance in a horse-drawn carriage or a stretch limousine; whether you want a small and intimate ceremony or a grand day out; whether you want log fires in the autumn, glorious gardens in the spring and summer, or a winter wedding with all the seasonal trimmings – The Morritt ensures quality and value.

The hotel has five beautiful rooms for a wedding ceremony, the smallest room holding 16 and the largest 200. The choice for your wedding includes the stunning Garden Room, which has proved incredibly popular since it was built in 2007.

Barbara says: “‘It is a great asset, and even foils our unpredictable British weather. When the sun shines, guests can enjoy the gardens just outside the glass doors and walls, and on cooler days the garden room is perfect for indoor photographs.”

The Morritt has been the glorious backdrop to the marriages of hundreds of happy couples who treasure their day.
