THE lovely furniture illustrated is from a company with an interesting history. Race For Furniture was started in 1920 by Ernest Oswald Race (Ossie), in the front room of his house in Borough Road, Stockton.
Determined to capitalise on the post-war boom, he started dealing in second-hand furniture, carpets, rugs and hardware.
Ossie’s son Clive took control when Ossie died in 1953 and Race for Furniture grew into a well-known company with a good reputation for selling quality new furniture and offering good old-fashioned personal service.
In 1978, the third generation of the same family, grandson Iain Clive Race, joined his father and now runs the business. In 1996, he opened a new store on Portrack Lane, Stockton, called Pine Warehouse, which has now become Home Interiors.
This is a lifestyle interiors store with two floors full of dining and occasional furniture, bedroom furniture, sofas and sofa beds, mattresses, cane furniture, unusual oneoff pieces, accessories, pictures, lighting and wallpaper.
