New residents at Witton-le-Wear

MARTIN Baldam and Angela Plant have become the latest residents at Dere Street Homes’ The Paddock development in Wittonle-Wear.

The couple have bought a three-bedroom detached Beech design on the exclusive 18-home development after the company’s houses were recommended to them by Angela’s mother. She lives in a Dere Street home at a previous development, Horn Hall in Stanhope.

Angela, an HR manager at Durham County Council, said: “Martin is from Yarm and I was living in Sacriston, and we were both keen to live in the country. We loved the design of the house and the whole feel of the development and the village. It only takes me 30 minutes to get into work in Durham and we’ve all the countryside and leisure amenities for walking and biking we could want right on the doorstep.”

“When mymumrecommended Dere Street to us, she did say how good they’d been, but the service we’ve had has been absolutely first class and Sandy Scott and Geoff Woods, in particular, have been just fantastic with nothing too much trouble to help us settle in. There’s already a real community here and we’re looking forward to the spring when we can get out more and really appreciate the countryside around us.”

The Paddock is an exclusive development consisting of just 18 three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, with several innovative designs of split-level and twostorey homes offering contemporary living in this traditional rural setting. Ten superb designs of new homes built in local materials have created a unique development in a magnificent setting.

Just off the A68, Witton-le-Wear is a comfortable commute to Tyneside, Durham, Wearside and Teesside. The village of some 500 people is also a community in its own right with its own primary school, two pubs and the Low Barns Nature Reserve right on its doorstep.

With Hamsterley Forest just to the west and the coast-to-coast cycle route passing through the village, it’s surrounded by superb leisure facilities, yet is only ten miles from the A1(M) and 20 minutes from Darlington.

Geoff Woods, construction director of Dere Street Homes, commented: “Four of the homes are now occupied, with another three reservations due to complete shortly.

“The village is really one of County Durham’s best kept secrets, with a superb location, facing south overlooking the River Wear. It’s perfect for house hunters looking for a country retreat, yet it’s also a thriving community in its own right. We’ve had a huge amount of interest ever since we began construction last year and are confident that the homes will sell very quickly to both local people and those who are looking to move into the village for the first time.”

Prices for those homes currently released for sale range from £249,950 for a three-bedroom Cedar design to £370,000 for a four-bedroom, split-evel Hazel design.
