Beamish Mary, No Place

WHEN you have an illustrious past, it can be quite a task to live up to it.

The Beamish Mary is a venue with something of a reputation on the beer front – earning awards for the quality of its brews – and now that the Hope family have taken charge, they have set their sights firmly on earning such accolades again.

The pub always has five or six real ales on offer – including a Theakstons, but with the others all coming from the local area.

Alongside the real ales is a selection of homemade food of cracking quality, the perfect companion to an evening tipple.

Pies are particularly a speciality – from rabbit through to traditional steak and ale.

The pub itself is a remarkable old building, with church windows and a stable block which can accommodate live music, another of the Beamish Mary’s old traditions to be making a return. The place has been thoroughly repainted since November and a new bar installed.

And after a night out here, if you fancy a comfy bed rather than the trip home, there are four bedrooms available with a full bed and breakfast service.
