Three Tuns, Osmotherley

IF you could define relaxation, then the Three Tuns wouldn't be a bad definition.

A family-owned venue at the heart of a North Yorkshire Moors village with a warm atmosphere and a Rennie Mackintosh inspired design? That will fit the bill nicely.

There is much more to the Three Tuns, however. After all, this is a spot that had the Daily Telegraph purring in its review, particularly over its delightful terraced garden full of various levels and secluded corners and the whole venue's beautiful design.

The same thought and care goes into the food here – with local produce heavily emphasised. Try the beef stroganoff with gnocchi dumplings, sour cream and parmesan or smoked haddock on spring onion mash with poached egg and hollandaise sauce. To follow, don't resist the chargrilled amaretto peaches with clotted cream or the rhubarb pudding, crême Anglaise and nutmeg ice cream.

The menu is complemented byh a comprehensive list of fine wines and traditional cask-conditioned ales.

Should you indulge in a tipple, the venue also offers accommodation if you wish to park the car here and wake up refreshed to a North Yorkshire morning.

The Three Tuns describes its food as "good, honest, back-to-basics cookery"

and offers a menu that is filled with good ideas – and loved by its many guests.
