Carlbury Arms, Piercebridge

THE village of Piercebridge is a typical countryside idyllic village with its large public green, beautiful surrounds and picturesque views up and down the River Tees. It appears that Piercebridge has it all.

This is a community where the Romans marched and, just as importantly, where they rested.

A Roman fort once sat upon this site, where Dere Street crossed the River Tees. The remains of that fort are open to the public, while the remains of the bridge that once spanned the Tees can still be seen.

However, they no longer arch their way across the water, for the water itself has moved.

They can be seen about 100 yards south of the current course of the river.

The Romans may have gone but what is found in Piercebridge now is The Carlbury Arms, a pub that does things the way that pubs should do. The homely, comfortable interior complete with open fires and a well-stocked bar provide a perfect traditional pub atmosphere.

The Carlbury Arms prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced produce which is reflected in a menu from traditional, rustic pub food to dishes with an interesting modern theme.

The bar at the Carlbury Arms is stocked to cater for every palate, including modern beers and lagers to fine real cask ales along with an extensive wine collection. There is something for everyone here.
