TUCKED away off the A167 on the picturesque village green at Aycliffe Village, you will find this pub with an excellent reputation for quality food. Here, you can relax in a gorgeous atmosphere with log fires, real ales and real locals.
Tipplers will find a real treat here, with the County Best Bitter, brewed at the micro brewery at Ferryhill, the Yard of Ale Brewery. Over the past 12 months, the pub has sold more than 150 different real ales. All of which make a perfect accompaniment for the range of tasty dishes on offer.
Perhaps you might be tempted by the medallions of pork loin, black pudding, cheese rarebit and real ale sauce, or the pork, sage and apple sausages with mash and stock gravy. Duck breast, Toulouse sausage, mixed bean and tomato cassoulet or vegetable nut loaf in cheese pastry and sweet red pepper sauce might also tantalise your tastebuds from the selection of hearty and enticing meals.
The full a la carte menu and chef’s fish board also include such delights as Shetland mussels in garlic with wine cream sauce, and the dishes on offer change regularly to use the best seasonal and local produce available. It doesn’t need to break the bank, either, with the early bird menu from 6- 7pm Mon-Sun costing just £9.95 for two courses or £12.95 for three. The quality of the food has been recognised recently with the Taste Durham@Quality Assured and Local Produce Champion award.
So as you choose your destination, perhaps sitting with a good beer overlooking the village green in the County’s terraced seating area on a fresh spring evening might just tick all your boxes.
