ONE of the biggest shop fronts on Barnard Castle high street was glaringly empty for a number of months but reopened in April as The Factory Store. The small chain, which also has shops in Whitley Bay and Chester-le- Street, sells surplus stock from different high street stores such as Marks & Spencer, Next and Monsoon.
“I don’t think we’ve had anything for more than £20 so you can buy an entire outfit for very little,” says manager Sally Ann Blackett, who lives in Butterknowle. “I think the reason people like us is that they can still have the names and know it’s well made, but they don’t have to pay the full price for it.”
