MORE than 150 people attended a fundraising ball in aid of the NSPCC, which raised thousands of pounds for the charity. Guests were entertained by local band Fashion Fever.

Jan Arundell, chairwoman of the Northallerton branch of the NSPCC, said the event, which was held at Solberge Hall Hotel, near Northallerton, had been a success.

She said: “It went very well, we raised more than £5,000 and the evening was enjoyed by all. The ball has already sold out for next year, because so many people have re-booked their tickets.”
