Darlington College

AN audience of hundreds enjoyed an outstanding spectacle as Darlington College celebrated one of its most successful years on record.

A glittering awards night was staged at Darlington Civic Theatre as scores of students were officially recognised for their endeavours.

An audience of friends, family and dignitaries, including chairman of the college board Alasdair MacConachie, former principal Sarah Robinson and mayor Jim Ruck, were treated to an extravaganza of music, dance and song.

The evening was hosted by BBC presenters Wendy Gibson and Richard Thomas and began with a solemn tribute to Ashleigh Hall, the Darlington College student who was found dead in October, having met a man on a social networking website.

Entertainment was by IT support officer and concert pianist Dean Stockdale, singer Hayley McKay and dancers from the Dance Wright Studio. There was also a catwalk display of hair and make-up with the theme of earth, wind, fire and water, by hairdressing and beauty therapy students.
