MORE than 30 former pupils of Bishop Auckland Girls’ Grammar School travelled from near and far for a reunion lunch at Bannatyne’s Hotel, in Darlington.
For two of the organisers, it was time to set aside their political differences and enjoy meeting old friends. Leader of the Conservatives in Darlington Heather Scott sat side by side with Bishop Auckland Labour councillor and local historian Barbara Laurie reminiscing about times gone by.
Now King James I Community Arts College, the school buildings opened in 1910 as the Girl’s County School, later to become the Grammar School.
Today, students are waiting to hear about the school’s future as proposals are drawn up to replace it with an education village.
